I only have 5 or 10 channels that I want in my channel list. Do I have to go through and delete all the others.

No. See the Initital Channel Load section in the installation instructions. Depending on the receiver type enter the appropriate command either [900] or [901] and clear all the channels at once. Then enter programming mode and simply add the channels you want (much faster).
